The Mike Ahearn Scholarship Fund, now officially known as the Ahearn Fund, was founded in 1964 with the primary objective of raising money from the private sector to assist with rising scholarship costs. While this continues to be one of our main objectives, the Fund has evolved into something much more; an Excellence Fund to support a world-class student-athlete experience, including academic services, sports medicine, equipment, and travel; as well as an edge in supporting capital enhancements, attracting and retaining outstanding coaches, and supporting recruiting efforts with a national reach. Throughout K-State athletics history, Ahearn Fund members have provided support for thousands of student-athletes who have proudly worn the Purple and White.
Annual gifts to the Ahearn Fund and priority season-ticket purchases represent the lifeblood of K-State Athletics and allow the department to achieve its vision of a model intercollegiate athletics program. The record $58.04 million budget for FY 2013 includes $7.02 million for student-athlete scholarships to be paid to the university. The remaining portion of Ahearn Fund contributions, along with capital support donations and ticket revenues, are strategically invested in providing a world-class experience to the 440 plus student-athletes that represent K-State, striving for the Big 12’s best fan experience and competing for league championships.
K-State supporters have a variety of ways to contribute to the excellence of Wildcat student-athletes. In addition to gifts of cash, the department also receives gifts of securities, retained rights to the use of real estate, gifts of real estate, matching gifts and gifts-in-kind.
